Love it
Very fast and solid built PDF reader. This review is for version 2.0.1. Readdle introduced version 1.0 in November 2015, and stated that they would continue to add features. They have been added features rapidly and consistently since their first version, and I really like their approach to updates. The updates are frequent and rock-solid. Each new feature is well thought through and works as intended from the get-go. They have their prioritizations right: critical features are added first, and then more sophisticated and specialized features are added as they go on. The look and feel of their PDF reader is fantastic. It is super-fast, and very reliable. Other PDF readers are either slow, heavy or cumbersome to work with, or frequently crashes. Other PDF readers pale in comparison to the build of this PDF reader. This is how a PDF reader for the Mac should be built. Their own advertisement claims it is fast, robust, and beautiful, and I totally agree! Well done!
In terms of features, they have added redaction and password protection with version 2.0.
I have previously used a mix of PDF readers. I used Skim for reading since it permits to set the background colour. I used Preview for merging documents and signing. I used Acrobat for some tricky files. And I used PDFpenPro for forms and OCRs. Skim’s annotations don’t work well in collaborations, Preview is feature-limited, Acrobat is slow, just awkward, and controlling, and PDFpenPro crashes all the time and seems to have a soup of a codebase. PDFpenPro is like built by spaghetti code. PDF Expert has the nicest feel over all of these alternatives and it is rock solid. I am continuing replacing all these alternatives with PDF Expert. I keep looking forward to Readdle continuing adding features to it. The direction and quality of the product is excellent. Finally a PDF reader for the Mac that is fun and pleasant to use.
